Born in Nassau Bahamas,April 26th 1974 to Haitian migrants,Gesner grew up as a humble hard working and ambitious young man.
From an early age,Gesner aka Mr.J was taught the value of hard work and
honesty. He applied these principles very early during his childhood life. After graduating from high school,Mr.J enrolled in a local vocational institute where he graduated with the basic fundamentals of electronics. He then began his career as an electronics repair technician, landing his very first job in the field with a company at which he was on a job training program while in school.
In the month of December 1994,while visiting a church service,Mr.J heard a message of truth that changed his way of living. He was reminded that there are many of us who say with our lips that we love God but we do not obey His instructions to us.
Mr.J was one who proclaimed love for God with his lips but his actions was far from that.Being under heavy conviction and unrest,he repented of his sins and believed on the Lord Jesus Christ for soul salvation. He went through major changes in areas of his life, giving up loose parties, inordinate affections, bad associations and what was a strong force, perverse music.Mr.J was a loyal fan of rappers such as Dr Dre,IceCube,Ice T and the late Eazy E to reggae artists, which was his favourite genre of music. After conversion,Mr.J began his witness of the Lord Jesus Christ to family members, friends and people living in his surrounding neighbourhood.During his process of transformation,he was in search for music to supplement for the negative secular music he was accustomed to.In his search.he came across a local reggae group called Christian Massive. He was excited to hear a group of young Christians singing reggae with clean lyrics glorifying God and addressing some of the social ills. With this excitement was also the doubt about the style of music which was not embraced by the church and other people in society.Mr.J made his international debut in Canada 2003 at a prefestival concert dubbed "Sonsplash".He also began recording dubplates for a sound sytem based in Canada called "Evangelist International"(www.dancehallgospel.com).
