Biography

Nakaaya was born in the Arusha region of Northern Tanzania on September 3, 1982. She is the oldest of five children. Her parents are business people in Arusha. Nakaaya grew up in Arusha and Nairobi, Kenya where she went to school. While still young, Nakaaya fell in love with singing and perfoming. After finishing school, she moved to Dar es Salaam and worked in various administrative capacities before pursuing her musical career. Nakaaya has perfomrd with the Tanzanite band who invited her to sing with them in 2004. However, she had to pause her singing career for a while so as not to interfere with her day job.

In 2006, opportunity came knocking in the form of Tusker Project Famewhich was holding auditions at the Dar Cinemas. Nakaaya went and impressed the judges with her talent quickly passing on to the finals and eventually being accepted as one of the housemates for the reality show.

Her favorite music and musicians include the likes of: Bob Marley, Miriam Makeba, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Louis Armstrong among other greats. Her interests include music duh!, Politics, Movies and animals. She likes reading and watching movies like Soulfood, Diary of a mad black woman, Barbershop among others. Her heroes include; Julius Nyerere and Geronimo Ji Jaga.



Career
Nakaaya lasted five weeks on the seven week reality show program dubbed Tusker Project Fame and was very popular for her sense of style and drama she brought to the house. Indeed this experience opened a whole array of doors for beautiful Nakaaya Sumari and she has been able to release her first single "Malaika". This is a beautiful love song offering Nakaaya's personal take on the age old classic. In it she urges her lover to take her as she is, a woman in love, and not think she needs anything from him but to love her in return.

Nakaaya has been busy with tours in various cities of the United States of America including; Houston, Atlanta, California among others. With all this she still managed to chuck another killer single titled "Mr. Politician" and its accompanying video which is doing massive rounds on the local airwaves of our three East African countries. This particular song features non other than M-1 of hip hop greats, Dead Prez.

She has acquired the love of many in her home-country, all over the region and now going out worldwide.Nakaaya says there's so much more to come and her fans should sit tight and continue to support her just as they have as she really appreciates it.
