Since a very young age Richard Amuok has been an artist. Also known as Rhymes Intellectual Chief (R.I.C), Richard first appeared on National Television in 1985, at the tender age of 7 years reciting a poem titled "I Wonder"!
He participated in Poetry, Drama and Acting wjhile in Primary School and Secondary school where he emerged "Best Actor" or "Poem Recite" on numerous occasions.
His love for Hip Hop begun in 1990 while in boarding school aged 12 years old! He used to sing copyrights and participated fully in games support team as a crowd chear leader both in Primary and secondary Schools.
In 1994, he met with Chizn Brain while living in the same slum estate of magongo in Mombasa. Chizn Brain later joined the same school as R.I.C and it is during their long stay that they discovered they had a common interest in Music and HipHop. They later hooked up with Njamba Men and formed the "Achon Pong Clan".
"We assembled old band equipment that Brain's father used with his band, togetehr with a keyboard that my dad had bought as a present for my sister! We connected all this stuff to a tape recorder and hence had our first recording sessions! Later on we would go with the tapes to the maskans and guys would listen to the musica and urge us to keep up with the morale."
In 1997, they appeared on National Television of KBC and this is the introduction that was given by the presenter "Ladies and Gentlemen, you have not seen anything like this before!!!" R.I.C says back then it didn't meen anything to him but when he looks back he realises how far they have come from!
in 1998 Brain went to live upcountry while Njamba Men quit music altogether. R.I.C then hooked up with a guy called Daddy Zee and continued performing as Achon Pong Clan. They participated in numerous Talent shows AT THE FLORIDA NIGHHT CLUB that year and emerged first position in ALL! It is during these Rap Battles that they met with Nguchi P and Dr. Dunga who was a former classmate of Daddy Zee and who later on became the founder members of UKOOFLANI.
Later in the year 1998 Kalamashaka who were making waves with their classic hit "Tafsiri" were invited to perform at the Mamba International Disco in Mombasa. An audition was held for all Mombasa artists to select who was to perform along side Kalamashaka. Again, R.I.C and Daddy Zee emerged tops as Achon Pong Clan! Due to a friendship that they had developed with Nguchi P, they invited him to perform alongside them at Mamba International Disco.
It is during that performance that they met with Kalamashaka and a relationship developed..
UKOOFLANI MAUMAU was Born around the year 2000 and was a combination of various artists from Mombasa and Nairobi who shared the same ideologies and love for HIPHOP.
R.I.C featured in the 2006 album of UKOOFLANI titled "KAYA HIPHOP". He later recorded an album in 2007 titled "VICHEKO JELA BARIDI" that was sold in the streets of Mombasa. In 2008 he trained in music production and did an album with another UKOOFLANI member Shalen Musa. The album titled "Taji La Mwiba" is still being worked on!
